New Mexico motorcycle helmet Laws 

Any individual under the age of 18 years, including both riders and passengers, must wear a helmet. The helmet must be approved by the Director of Transportation of New Mexico. 

As per the New Mexico state motorcycle helmet use law, all individuals under the age of 18, including both motorcyclists and passengers, riding a motorcycle or all-terrain vehicle (ATV) need to wear safety helmets. This law does not include people who ride mopeds. 

The helmet should meet the standards set by the Director of Transportation of New Mexico. Plus, the helmet must be securely fastened on the rider’s head. Riders must also wear eye protection in the form of a face shield attached to the safety helmet, safety eyeglasses, or goggles if their bike does not have a fixed windshield.

New Mexico motorcycle helmet laws were repealed in 1977. Helmets are required for all motorcyclists underneath the age of eighteen. Under the Department of Transportation, these helmets should match or exceed federal safety criteria (DOT). When a rider reaches the age of 18, he or she is no longer required to wear a helmet.

New Mexico’s universal helmet law, which required all riders to wear helmets, was repealed in 1977. Continuing to wear a helmet after turning 18 may, however, save your life in the event of an accident. Motorcyclists without a windshield or windscreen are required to wear safety goggles.
