Maine motorcycle helmet Laws

According to the Maine motorcycle helmet laws, riders and passengers under the age of 18 years must wear a helmet. Operators who have been licensed within a year of completing their driver’s test will also have to wear a helmet.

As per the Maine motorcycle helmet use laws, both the rider and the passenger must wear a helmet. Additionally, they should wear eye protection, unless the bike is fitted with a windscreen. The eye protection and helmet must meet the standards set by the Administrator of Transportation of Maine.

The Administrative body approves the specifications and standards of motorcycle safety gear. It has also published an approved list of all protective gear with their type and name. Since these specifications and standards are subject to change, it is recommended that riders must stay updated before riding a motorbike in Maine.

Maine Motorcycle helmet laws were established in 1977. Drivers or passengers under the age of 18, operators with a learner’s permit and within one year of passing a driving test, and the passenger of an operator mandated to wear headgear all should be wearing head protection in Maine. Violations of this section are considered traffic violations.

Motorcycle drivers who have been licenced less than a year after passing their driver’s exam, as well as those with learner’s permits, should wear helmets. When a driver is asked to wear a helmet, Maine law as well mandates that his or her passenger do so.

Maine motorcycle helmet laws are subject to change as state helmet laws across the USA are periodically revised. Click here to check for any changes to Maine motorcycle helmet laws, as this is the best Maine state government source for motorcycle helmet laws and regulations we know of.
